MUSLIM WOMAN BARRISTER WINS HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD

A young Muslim woman barrister received the Human Rights Lawyer of the Year Award as part of the Human Rights Awards hosted by the organisations Liberty, Justice and the Law Society.

A young Muslim woman barrister received the Human Rights Lawyer of the Year Award as part of the Human Rights Awards hosted by the organisations Liberty, Justice and the Law Society. The awards ceremony was held at the Old Theatre, London School of Economics and was attended by lawyers, politicians, journalists and human rights activists.

Shaheed Fatima was given the award for her remarkable work, for her brilliant analysis, consistent arguments and commitment in debating human rights cases before both the British and the European Courts. The award was handed to her by Roger Smith of and Justice. Shaheed Fatima is a member of Blackstone Chambers where she practices in international law, human rights, public law and commercial law. She is the author of Using International Law in Domestic Courts (Hart, 2005) and is a Director/Board member of Liberty, a Trustee of the Runnymede Trust, a Committee member of the Human Rights Lawyers Association and a member of the New York State Bar Association.
