A large number of people took to the streets in Idlib province’s centre on 17 July in support of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a staunch ally of Syrian people. The protest was held by those, linked to the Free Syrian Army, in the opposition-held residential areas. Hundreds of protestors including women and children carried Turkish and Syrian flags. “Turkey is my honour and sovereignty,” they chanted.
Elsewhere in Middle East, in Gaza, hundreds of all ages were on streets to voice their support Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, known as a fierce and vigorous advocate of the Palestinian people.
Palestinians celebrated the failure of the coup plot, orchestrated by military officers, loyal of U.S.-based preacher Fethullah Gulen. They lifted Turkish and Palestinians flags and carried large banners of Erdoğan’s picture in the Hamas-led protest held in front of the Shawaw and Husari Media Tower.
There has been a pro-Turkish protest also in Pakistan. A large number of people, turned out in front of the press club in Islamabad, denounced the failed coup plot that targeted the Turkish president. “Long-live Turkey”, “Long live Erdoğan”, “Turkey’s destiny is ours. Long live Turkish-Pakistani amity,” they chanted, waving Turkish flags. The protest culminated with the prayer for Turkey to ensure peace and public order in the aftermath of crushed coup.
In Africa, Somalian people have condemned the coup attempt in Turkey. Throngs of people took to the streets in Mogadishu in the government-held rally against crumbled coup plot. Since 2011, Erdoğan has paid three visits to Somalia, including his last trip to Mogadishu where he inaugurated what was said to be the largest Turkish mission in the world.
Meanwhile, Yousuf al-Qaradawi, Islamic scholar who heads the International Union of Muslim Scholars, has sent a letter to the Turkish President to express his pleasure as the military coup was successfully crushed. The entire ummah, Arab and Muslim world stand by Erdoğan as he has strongly advocated all oppressed people and democracy against the oppressors, the Egyptain scholar said.
