Thousands of Muslims, on 27 November, gathered at Azad Maidan of Mumbai in demand of reservation in government sectors. The protest was jointly organised by different social and political organisations. Addressing the gathering, Shamsheer Khan, President Awami Vikas Party, said that Muslim representation in government jobs during British rule was near 35 per cent but post independence, the representation has been slashed down by 29 per cent and it is only 6 per cent nowadays. Khan further demanded to revoke the presidential order issued in 1950. The presidential order states that no Indian citizen is liable to get reservation until he belongs to the Hindu community. Among those who addressed the rally include Dr. Aejaz Ali, former Member of Parliament, Jitendra Awad, Regional president of NCP, Shabbir Ansari of Muslim OBC Movement, Maulana Mahmood Daryabadi of All India Ulema Council.
