A civil society in Manipur namely Anjuman Islahe Muashara, on 8 December, seized and destroyed party drugs worth Rs 21 lakh in the Grey Market at Lilong in Thoubal district of Manipur. The drugs containing Spasmo-Proxyvon tablets, pseudoephedrine-content tablets of different brands and several cans of cough syrup were set ablaze in public in presence of the Minister for Agriculture in the State, Md Abdul Nashir. “Our volunteers had seized the drugs from peddlers and smugglers from different parts of Lilong and its surrounding areas,” stated General Secretary of the Anjuman Moulana Habib Ullah, adding, “This was the ninth time when we destroyed drugs in public since inception of Anjuman in February 2011.” Before destroying the seized drugs, a motorcycle rally, which was attended by the minister and other prominent personalities of the area, was held to discourage drug abuse.
