This is in reference to the report titled ‘Why Muslims are Oblivious of the Destruction of Waqf?’ (Radiance Viewsweekly, 3-9 February 2013). It is heart-rending to know how the government and other institutions and departments have illegally occupied the lands of waqf. It is very unfortunate that in a country where Muslims have so much land and property, in the very country they are backward and are forced to live on streets. Had all that has been occupied by the central and state governments and by the other departments be returned, Muslims would again come at the forefront and the whole community would get elevated from the dungeons of poverty and misery to self-dependence and prosperity. What is required from Muslims is that they should awake from their slumber and try to reclaim what has been occupied by others.
