In the ongoing Assembly elections in the North Indian State of Uttar Pradesh Muslims are strategically voting for the candidates who are openly aligned against communal and fascist forces. Their single aim is to defeat the communal and fascist forces.

Maulana Salman of a Shahi Madrasa in Moradabad said that like every election since the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 this time too Muslims are not voting for a single party.

“We are persuading the Muslims to exercise their franchise just to defeat communal forces irrespective of their political affiliation,” he added.

Maulana Asad Rasheed of 130-year old Jamia Qasmia in Moradabad also stressed the idea of voting for the candidates who promote communal harmony and national integration. He said the political parties that love to play the politics of religion and caste must be boycotted.

Shia Aalim of Sanbhal Raza Abbas Zaidi alias Raza Mian is of the view that Muslims should vote for the candidates who keep from communal politics and work for the development of the State and the country.

Campaigning for the third phase of Assembly elections in the State will come to an end Monday evening. In this phase votes will be cast in 57 constituencies on April 18. Fate of important leaders, including Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Deputy Speaker of State Assembly and BJP candidate Rajesh Agrawal, Minister for Urban Development Muhammad Azam Khan and others will be tried in this phase.
