Muhammad Badahdah, assistant secretary-general of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), has underlined the need to make use of modern information media, including the highly popular social media, to propagate the message of Islam. Opening a media workshop organised by Chennamangallur Islahiya Association, Jeddah chapter, Badahdah said Muslims should obtain more training in media activities in order to become masters in the field and give the mass media a proper direction. “The media has become a major changing force in the world. Nobody can ignore its power and influence. We have to make use of modern media to spread the true message of Islam and remove the misunderstandings about this great religion,” he said on April 24.
Badahdah also spoke about his organisation’s activities across the world to empower Muslim youth and provide them with right Islamic guidance to enable them to play a constructive role in their societies.
Kassim Irikkur, news editor of Gulf Madhyamam daily, spoke on news reporting and how to conduct interviews while A.M. Sajith, editor of Malayalam News, explained news structure, news sources and qualities of a good reporter. C.B. Sudhakaran of King Abdulaziz University gave a lecture on writing techniques. O. Abdul Rahman, chairman of Islahiya Association and chief editor of Madhyamam daily, gave an inspiring speech through video.
V.P. Muhammad Ali of Jeddah National Hospital and Moosakkutty V of Thanima, gave felicitations, Hassan Cherupa of Malayalam News gave guidelines for an in-house reporting contest and Ershad presented a media game. About 70 people including women attended the workshop, chaired by Ebrahim Chamnad, president of the association. Akbar Ponnani was the anchor.
