An interfaith dialogue was organised on “Solutions to the Problems Faced by Our Society” at Lemon Tree Hotel at Pune on January 24. The programme was organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Pune on the eve of its ten days state-wide campaign “Darkness to Light”.

Heads of different communities and religious leaders like Rev Thomas Dabre, Bishop of Pune and Dr. Bhagwat Guruji, attended the programme. The session was chaired by Rizwan Ur Rahman Khan, state president of JIH Maharashtra.

Introducing the state-wide campaign and its objectives, Mohammad Sami said, “Today our society is facing enormous challenges like rapes, drugs abuse, domestic violence and suicide. These issues have shaken the very basis of our existence. Here we need to ponder over the solution which lies in the teachings of the Holy Prophet of Islam ﷺ.

Earlier, Manzoor Khan introduced JIH and its activities.

Thomas Dabre insisted that such programmes should be organised frequently so that dialogue between communities may clear the misunderstandings. Dr Bhagwat Guruji, said that it’s important to know the purpose of our existence, our Lord and our Creator.

Dr. Ikram, in his keynote address, said, “Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in the time when girls were buried alive in Arab. People used to fight for generations over petty issues. The Prophet changed the entire course of civilization within 23 years after he was appointed prophet by Allah. His teachings and Life is a role model for all of us. It is a high time to study and act upon his teachings so that our beloved nation should become a place of peace and prosperity.”

In his presidential address, Rizwan Ur Rahman said,  “26th January is our Republic Day but it  comes with a gloom and sadness as we are far away from the Bharat of our dreams. The society has been a victim of materialism  with a narrow and self-centred  approach i.e. ‘just me and my family’.

The JIH leader invited the audience to think as to why we are here. He emphasised that there is surely a Day of Judgement and Accountability of all our deeds done in this short worldly life. “And this sense of accountability has the potential to solve all our human problems, bringing us from darkness to true Light.”

Mr. Shoeb extended vote of thanks while Mirza Aasim Baig conducted the programme.
