Deputy chief minister RR Patil on September 10 ordered the transfer of the second Nanded blast investigation from the Nanded police to the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) after social activists produced a fact finding report and stated that the local police was not investigating the case properly.
On the intervening night of February 9-10 , 2007, Nanded was rocked by an explosion, the second in less than a year. The blast took place inside a bakery – Amol Biscuits. “Two persons were killed in the incident. One of them was Pandurang Bhagwan Amilkanthwar, a former Shiv Sena shakha pramukh. “His cousin, Dnyaneshwar Manikwar, also present on the spot, sustained over 70 per cent burn injuries. Initially admitted to a Nanded hospital, Manikwar was later moved to the JJ Hospital in Mumbai. He succumbed to his injuries a week after the incident ,’’ said Teesta Setalvad, a social activist.

Setalvad and another activist Altaf Ahmed met Patil to draw his attention to the lackadaisical approach of the Bhagyanagar police (Nanded) that was probing the matter. They had also approached the state human rights panel which had, in its last hearing on June 17 this year, issued notice to the SP of Nanded.
