The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Aligarh Orthopaedic Club jointly organised a symposium on “Limb Salvage in Malignant Bone Tumours”. The guest speakers, eminent faculties from all over India, discussed the varied aspects of limb salvage contributing vast knowledge in the field of Bone tumours. Their lectures provided insight into the latest developments in the field of limb salvage and state of the art information on new techniques evolved in the recent past. In the recent past most of these tumours were treated by amputation. Limb salvage surgery has all but replaced amputation as the treatment of choice for sarcomas of the extremities. Prof. A. A. Iraqi, Patron of the event, gave a brief introduction to the topic of the symposium emphasising the importance of limb salvage in current management of malignant bone tumours and need of such academic events to keep pace with speed at which it is growing. He said the limb salvage patients have higher rate of functional score with good movement. He said that the limb salvage method was evolved in order to overcome the functional psychological and social problems associated with amputation. Padmashri laureates Prof. S. S. Yadav from New Delhi and Prof. Mayil Vahanan Natrajan from Chennai, and Dr. Mandip Shah from Ahmedabad, Dr. Alok C. Agarwal from Jabalpur, Prof. M. Farooque, Prof. Sudhir Kapoor, Prof. Shishir Rastogi, Dr. Akshay Tiwari from New Delhi and Prof. Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Dr. M. Khalid, Prof. Rana K. Sherwani, Prof. M. K. A Sherwani, Dr. Abdul Qayyum Khan from Aligarh included the panel of speakers.
