At a meeting of the newly elected office bearers of Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union was held at university’s Kennedy auditorium on 3 February, all the three functionaries— Shahzad Alam, Tausif Alam and Manzar Hussain who have been elected as President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary respectively in the election held on 31 January—expressed their commitment to work tirelessly for the betterment of the university and to regain its minority status.
The university says it follows the Recommendations of Lyngdoh in its Union Elections and disqualified some candidates based on it. But a majority of the students are of the opinion that it only follows the recommendations regarding attendance and age limit. The Recommendations of Lyngdoh to announce election schedule within three months of the start of every new academic year, has never been followed by the authority.
