The non-involvement of the National Human Rights Commission in the recent Gopalgarh brutal killings, where 10 Muslims were killed, has infuriated many. Kamal Farooqui, national secretary of Samajwadi Party and the ex-chairman of the Delhi Minority Commission expressed dislike over NHRC’s decision to segregate itself from the issue. Mr. Farooqui said it is pitiful that those organisations and groups which claim to be working for the rights of human beings are not entering into the cause, even after such grave violations of human rights. He complained to the NHRC that the innocent Muslims of Gopalgarh have been terrorised and said strict and firm actions must be taken against those who did not register the FIRs against the guilty.

Mr. Farooqui said the Police opened fire on the innocent unarmed worshippers and the Gujjars set the dead bodies on fire while dishonouring the mosque. Mr. Farooqui appealed to the NHRC to look into the matter seriously and carry out its investigation. Meanwhile, the chief minister, Mr. Ashok Gehlot has confirmed that the deaths have occurred because of the police firing.
