Members of the Delhi Solidarity Group met National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Justice K.G. Balakrishnan on December 10 and sought his intervention for withdrawal of cases filed by the Karnataka police against Tehelka magazine journalist K.K. Shahina. Journalists, academicians and social workers, who form the Group, also sought an NHRC inquiry into the charges of harassment and intimidation by the police against the journalist, who was targeted for interviewing and publishing a report on a case relating to People’s Democratic Party chairman Abdul Nazir Maudany, who was arrested in connection with the Bangalore bomb blast cases. Among others, the signatories of a memorandum submitted to the NHRC include Delhi journalists Venkitesh Ramakrushnan and Pandey, Kerala journalist Radhakrishnan and Delhi professor Nivedita Menon.
