A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), on 23 May, visited Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh to collect information as to what had made Lieutenant Colonel Purohit to plan carrying out bomb blasts in the campus. The NIA finds that a visit of MurliManohar Joshi, then Minister of Human Resource Development in the NDA government in 1999, had been cancelled following the heavy protest by the students and that seems the only reason for his plot. “The officers asked about the objectives of Joshi’s visit in 1999 and sequence of events which had occurred in the campus then,” said RahatAbrar, the spokesperson of the university. The team also talked to HAS Zafari, then pro vice-chancellor of the university and checked the news reports published after that incident.
