This refers to the ‘Islam’s Contribution to World Civilization’ (Radiance, 23 Feb-1 March). Islam or rather Muslims has contributed a lot to the world civilisation and their contribution to the development of the planet is unforgettable. From Chemistry and Physics to Medicine to Mathematics to Philosophy, every single branch of knowledge owes a favour of the community. But all has been messed up today. No one knew the contribution of Jabir ibn Hayyan in the field of Chemistry and Zahrawi and Khwarizmi’s contribution in the field of medicine and mathematics respectively. Besides, Abbas Ibn Firnas was the first person to make a real attempt to construct a flying machine. In the 9th century, Firnas flew upwards for a few minutes using his winged apparatus. Anyway, these all are things of past and there is hardly any remarkable contribution from the Muslim side in the near past.
