An advertisement by a private real estate agency on a web portal with a rider – “Muslims Not Allowed” – has created brouhaha among the targeted community. The advertisement placed by Mumbai-based agency, M/S Jacinta Estates, on a very popular portal of real estate 99acres.com, said “no Muslim allowed” to buy or rent a property in Dadar area of Mumbai. The website, 99acres.com, owned by Info Edge (India) Ltd said it was unaware of the incident as the advertisers directly upload their ads using its self service online interface. The offensive text has been removed now.
There have been several cases in the record of Maharashtra State Minority Commission where Muslims faced problems in buying and renting a house in the city. Also, there are cases of Muslim families, who have bought flats, but the society took objections in transferring the title on their names.
