The state education department had not appointed a single Urdu teacher in the last one decade, says Urdu Teachers Association of Rajasthan. Recently, in a meeting presided over by state education minister Master Bhanwarlal Meghwal attended by principal secretary minorities department Rohit Brandon, Waqf board chairman Liakat Ali Khan ended without any resolution on issues like recruitment of teachers and introducing Urdu in schools in Muslim strongholds.
A rough estimate reveals that over three lakh Muslim students study in government schools at all levels in the state. Ameen Kaimkhany, president of Urdu Teachers’ Association said, “The state has less than 1,000 Urdu teachers against four lakh students, most of them are potential students.” He demanded that student-teacher ratio should be in accordance with the Right to Education Act-2009.
Brandon assured that the government will take all the necessary steps to promote languages like Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Sindhi.
