Though the world has achieved scores of heights in the field of science and technology yet the “untouchable” have to work hard to get an equal status or rather to access to their rights in the society. A report from Jasdan division of Gujarat reveals that the “untouchables” of around 10 villages in the division have no right to the water of Narmada River. Though the people of “upper caste” are not dependent on Narmada water, the “untouchables” are not allowed to touch the water of the river even in the days of drought. Dwellers of Chitliya village say they have always been subjected to violence and abusive language of “upper cast” whenever they try to come close to the river. A woman says while narrating her story, “We are untouchables; hence we have no right even over natural sources.”
