The News Broadcasters Association has done well to issue a set of norms for its member-channels for reporting. And much more is required to be done. Both print and electronic media must not reveal identity or interview lawyers of an accused. Many lawyers deliberately take up cases of accused in media highlighted cases (some even without fees) with solitary motto of getting an enormous and free media-publicity. Some very important telecasts of national importance like speeches from President and Prime minister, government-functions for civilian and military awards/honours etc. should be compulsorily telecast by all TV channels even in private sector. List of some very few such events can be prepared by a joint committee of Union Ministry of Information & Broadcast with National Broadcasters Association.
