Noted Scientist Mohammed Khalil bags Sahitya Academy Award

Mohammed Khalil, a distinguished name in the field of Science Literature for Children, who edited Science ki Duniya and authored a number of science articles, has been awarded Sahitya Academy award under Bal Sahitya Puraskar category for his Urdu book Science ke Dilchasp Mazameen. He was presented with the award on November 14, Children’s Day. He received a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000.

The President of the Academy, Chandrashekhar Kambar, handed over this national award to Mr. Khalil along with other writers of Children Literature in 22 different languages, at a programme held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai in the evening of November 14. Vairamuthu Ramasamy, a prominent figure in the Tamil literary world, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

The Awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2017).

Mr. Khalil has to his credit 17 books in Urdu and 2 books in Hindi, all on Science Literature. His science articles in Hindi were published in magazines like PragChakmak and Bal Bharti, etc. Earlier too, he was presented with the various prestigious awards, including the Atmaram Award for Science at the hands of then President Pratibha Patil.
