Nair Service Society (NSS) and Jamaat-e-Islam Hind, Kerala are set to start their own de-addiction centres. The proposed centre of NSS will be coming up in Kottayam district, while the one planned by Jamaat may come up at Kuttipuram in Malappuram district. Treatment at these centres would be offered to all, cutting across caste and religion. Both these organisations have been organising campaigns against alcoholism for quite some time. According to Jamaat leaders, the organisation has been involved in alcohol de-addiction activities for the last three years. “We had been conducting 25-day-long de-addiction camps. We also offer support to the patients for one year after the de-addiction treatment so that they might be completely cured of the addiction,” said Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Kerala general secretary, P Mujeeburahman. “While reviewing our activities during the past few years, we realised the need for a permanent centre for de-addiction,” he said.
