The trend of drug abuse is rising alarmingly among youngsters in almost every part of the country. A recent study on “Substance Abuse in Children and Adolescents” by Dr. Manu Agrawal of the King George’s Medical University, Lucknow has revealed that there has been a shocking increase in the number of drug addicts aged between 10-16 in Lucknow and at other places. As per the data provided by the de-addiction centres in Lucknow, the cases of child drug abuse was almost negligible till about four years ago. However, in 2012 around 138 such cases were reported at different de-addiction centres in the city. The core reasons behind this curse, as cited by the surveying doctor, are growing peer pressure on youngsters, meeting their parents’ expectations and easy access to internet. The youngsters find easy ways to lessen pressure on internet and thus they got caught into bad habits.
