Coalition Against Genocide, an organisation made up of a spectrum of organisations and individuals in the United States and Canada that have come together in response to the Gujarat genocide to demand accountability and justice, is holding a candlelight vigil on March 3, 2012 (4:30 pm to 7:00 pm), in New York City, to mark the 10th anniversary of the anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat, and to highlight the continued suffering of the 2002 victims.

Ten years after the brutal rapes, and vicious murders of thousands of innocent Muslim civilians, creating many orphans, most of the perpetrators openly walk the streets of India, making a mockery of India’s justice system, a statement said. Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, who allowed the anti-Muslim violence to continue unabated for several days, and who has destroyed crucial government records, in an attempt to cover up his misdeeds, is yet to be prosecuted for his crimes against humanity, the statement added. The Coalition Against Genocide was instrumental in getting Modi’s diplomatic visa to the US revoked, thereby derailing his campaign to become India’s Prime minister.
