In a major embarrassment to the Gujarat government, the Embassy of Oman in New Delhi issued an advertisement in a national daily, clarifying it has not invited Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi to Oman. This comes nearly three weeks after the Gujarat Information department issued a press release about an Oman delegation’s visit to Gandhinagar. The release had stated that “the Chief Minister accepted an invitation to lead a business delegation of the state government to visit Oman to explore the possibility of developing trade and commerce between Gujarat and Oman.” However, the advertisement said the invitation was not extended by the Sultanate of Oman, but by the Dutch Rotterdam company, which has a project in the port city of Sohar. It mentioned that the company has an agreement with Gujarat and invited Modi. “The Government of Sultanate of Oman has no relation to this visit. He is the guest of the above mentioned company,” it read.
Human Rights activists in the US welcomed the decision of the Oman government not to invite the pogrom politician, Narendra Modi, for a visit. The embassy of the Sultanate of Oman had taken the unusual step of taking out an advertisement in a national daily to deny the claim by Modi government that he was invited by the Oman.
“The next logical step for the government of Oman is to investigate the flow of funds to Modi and his party from Oman. The governments of other Gulf countries and countries in the far east, as well as in Europe and the Americas, must investigate the flow of funds to Modi and his militant wing of the Hindutva supremacist, BJP,” said Dr. Shaik Ubaid, a founding national coordinator of Coalition Against Genocide.
Dr. Shaik Ubaid congratulated the human rights activists and organizations for educating the government of Oman about the dangers of Hindutva supremacist movement that derives inspiration from Hitler, and was founded on the model of Mussolini’s Fascist party in the 1920’s. The movement was responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
