Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini on May 14 extended Eid greetings to all and prayed to Allah for making it an occasion for blessings and prosperity.
The JIH President said: “The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ declared Eid al-Fitr to be one of the two festivals of the Muslim community. Normally, people turn the birthdays of their national heroes or a significant day in their history into festivals. However, Muslims are grounded in reality and are futuristic in their outlook. The Qur’ān offers a vision and mission to Muslims and they endeavour to fulfil that task. Eid al-Fitr, our biggest festival, is a celebration of the commencement of the revelation of the Qur’ān. It is a unique formula to help humanity achieve success in this world and the hereafter. It promotes a definitive worldview, value-system, way of life, culture, and civilization. Muslims by embodying these celebrate it as Eid.
“All the rituals associated with Eid al-Fitr encompass these thoughts. For example, Muslims amplify “takbeerat” (announcement of the glory and supremacy of God by reciting Allah u Akbar) on the day of Eid and remind themselves that their job is to announce the greatness and supremacy of God to the world. The Eid prayers with thousands of believers bowing and prostrating in unison behind an Imam (leader) demonstrates the social equality, organisational discipline and unity of the community. Then the purpose of this unity is not for economic development, political dominance or inter-community rivalry. This cohesion is only to proclaim the greatness of God and calling people to the divine path of submission and obedience to the Creator.”
The Jamaat leader reminded us: “The ‘Sadaqa e Fitr’ and ‘Zakat’ are a manifestation of love and care for the poor, orphans, widows, the needy and marginalised. Eid reminds Muslims about their role in society as a source of spiritual guidance and in alleviating the pain and suffering of people. Muslims must carry out this responsibility. They must alert the world to surrender their will before God. We must emerge as a source of mercy for humanity.
“The post-Covid world is going to bring new challenges. Our role as those who proclaim the glory of God and serve humanity needs to be intensified. I offer my condolences to all those who lost their lives during the pandemic and pray to God for forgiveness and mercy for the deceased. I pray for the early and complete recovery for the ill and sick and to grant help and succour to those who lost their source of livelihood.
“We also declare our solidarity to our beloved Palestinian brothers and sisters who are bravely resisting the onslaught of the cruel Zionists. We pray for their victory and beseech divine help for freedom to the Palestinians and complete liberation of the ‘First Qiblah’ of the Muslim Ummah.”
