A video from a junior high school in Banda district has triggered widespread anger after it showed uniformed children engaged in manual labour on campus, Radiance News reported on May 2.
The footage, recorded in Achharaund Gram Panchayat, shows students using labour tools like shovels and pans to load sand. A local resident named Mahendra, whose children study at the school, alleged that teachers forced students into such labour work. He said his children attend school to learn and not to perform labour. He also claimed that some students face discriminatory treatment.
The video spread quickly on social media and drew strong reactions. Many users pointed out that forcing children between the ages of 6 and 12 into labour violates the law and basic rights of students.
Mahendra appealed to authorities to take strict action. He urged the administration to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
District Basic Education Officer Avyakt Ram Tiwari reportedly said he had not seen the video earlier. He stated that schools were closed on Friday, May 1. He assured that an enquiry would take place if the video is verified. He added that action would follow based on findings.
The incident has raised concern about monitoring standards in schools and protection of children’s rights. It has also led to calls for stronger oversight to ensure that educational spaces remain safe and focused on learning.
