Jordan’s parliament on March 12 asked the government of Prime Minister Abdallah Ensour to expel the Israeli ambassador from Amman and recall the Jordanian envoy from Israel. The ultimatum came over growing anger in Jordan following the killing of a Jordanian judge by Israeli border guards at a border crossing on March 10. Jordanian judge Raed Ala’eddin Zeiter was shot dead by Israeli soldiers near the King Hussein Bridge (Allenby Bridge) linking Jordan to the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The Jordanian lawmakers also sponsored a call for ushering in Jordanian-Palestinian control over border crossings with the Palestinian territories.
Jordanians also demonstrated on March 14 to urge the government to shut the Israeli embassy and scrap its unpopular peace treaty with the Jewish state after a Jordanian judge was shot dead by an Israeli soldier at a border crossing. Chanting “no Zionist embassy on Arab land”, they gathered near a mosque in the Rabia district of the Jordanian capital close to the Israeli embassy.
