Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on September 2 demanded a ban on the Rashtriya Swyamasevak Sangh (RSS), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal for alleged violence against Christians in Orissa. Mr. Paswan also wanted an independent probe to investigate the activities of organisations inciting violence and ban them if they indulge in anti-national activity. The LJP plans to hold a demonstration to protest the Orissa violence which was shameful and dangerous for national integrity. “If the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) has to be banned, then why not VHP, Bajrang Dal or RSS?” wondered Mr. Paswan. He accused the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of going soft on the BJP is evident , from her disinclination to order a CBI probe into the death of two Bajrang Dal activists who were allegedly making bombs in Kanpur.
