Nobody can deny that true loyalty and worst disloyalty in all cases are only with respect to One Creator, Cherisher and Merciful Lord of the worlds, Whose slaves are free to obey or disobey His commands and act for or against His divine law, in spite of its being fair and rational beyond all doubt for everybody.
See, for example, the first of the ten commandments, both as per the Bible and the Qur’ān, which prescribes ‘not to associate anything with One God’ and the Upanishads saying Ekam yawa dwaitam (He is One with no second). Even Guru Nanakji stressed the worship of One Lord and preached against idol worship. In the backdrop of these true teachings of all major religions of the world, the practices of respective followers are not comparable with them.
Worship of one Lord by all and for all as prescribed by all religions should never mean to conclude that all scriptures and religious practices as existing today are 100% equally valid and ‘everything is same’. In view of the factual revisions that crept into various scriptures and even divine books, it is to be understood that following ‘the latest divine law’ is not undermining of any of the previous ‘divine scriptures’.
For example, Allah says “The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) believers. They all believe in God and His angels, His scriptures, and His messengers. They say ‘we do not differentiate between any of His messengers. We hear and obey. Grant us our forgiveness, Lord to you we shall all return!” (2:285)
The basic problem today is making ‘water tight compartments of different aspects or walks of our life’. Whenever one talks about ethics in politics, he is accused of ‘mixing religion with politics’; businessmen and traders, who make big money, want to forget their obligations towards others and the need for ethics in conduct of their activities, except making nominal donations to institutions like reputed Dargahs, holy places and holy personalities; to them their ‘economy cannot be mixed with religion’.
Just imagine how easily economic problems can be solved if money is invested productively, not depending on interest and if two and a half per cent per annum of zakat is collected from all the eligible rich.
Each of the protagonists of nationalism the world over ‘thinks, says, and behaves’ as if he is ‘the greatest in every respect’ i.e. he is ‘greater than all other protagonists in every way’. Obviously such a philosophy defies all logic and common sense but it does exist practically.
Thus, many fanatic politicians all over the world, due to ignorance of common man, misuse and misinterpret the natural love that a human being has towards one’s native place, i.e. the place of birth, village, province and nation. These self-styled patriots, to suit their convenience, dub any time, anybody, and everybody as in want of their certificates of ‘loyalty’, which in fact is due exclusively to One Lord Cherisher.
