On August 8, the peaceful Ramadhan night at Moradabad was transformed into the night of turbulence and violence. The ruckus happened when a group of Kanwarias insisted on taking out the procession from an undeclared route and decided to take it through the Muslim community. At that time the people of the minority community were offering Taraweeh (Night Prayer), and when objected, Kanwarias resorted to arson and vandalism in which 13 people got injured, including 6 policemen.

However the Police has taken control of the situation by arresting around 50 miscreants and has imposed curfew in various parts of the area which come under six police stations. So far the situation is under control and no news of any fresh violence has been reported from any area of Moradabad. Curfew has also been relieved in some parts of Moradabad. Although the situation in Moradabad seems to be normal yet it has created chaos in the Lok Sabha, where Mulayam Singh has asked the central government to intervene in the state and is seeking the ouster of the U.P. government headed by Mayawati.
