“The Government of India has excluded information regarding mother tongue and religion in Census 2011. This is quite strange as the said information is an integral part of census from the day one,” laments Syyed Mansoor Agha, General Secretary of Forum for Civil Rights in a statement on April 26. He has underlined the need of including these columns in the census form. First part of the exercise, in which only house listing and housing census will be done, has just started. Population counting will be done in the second phase of the exercise which will take several months. Therefore it will not be difficult at all to include these vital information regarding citizens.
