Sometimes New Year’s celebration turns out to be a nightmare where joys become sorrow. What has happened in Sanghai where more than two dozen people lost their lives in a stampede during New Year’s Eve? In India, 17 low floor buses were burnt because of firecrackers. A couple of students died in accident while returning late night after celebrating New Year.

Let the people pledge for a peaceful 2015 where there are no riots, no major natural calamities nor any manmade disasters. Let India move forward towards growth and development in all spheres. Let there be no crimes against women. Let there be peace and prosperity for one and all. Let no farmer suicide because of debt. Let human dignity be preserved and mutual trust and respect for one another get strengthened. Let the leaders become more responsible and conscious for the welfare of the people. Let people become more aware of their duties and responsibilities.

The Much-maligned Film ‘PK’

‘PK’ is a 2014 Indian reality film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Siddharth Roy Kapur, and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. It stars Aamir Khan in the title role, with Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla, and Sanjay Dutt in supporting roles. It tells the story of an alien who comes to Earth on a research mission and befriends a television journalist.

‘PK’ is a simple film with a strong message of God, love, peace and humanity. That is what every religion teaches us. We all need a change of heart with positive attitude towards humanity and believe in one God who created this word.

It’s Not Rocket Science

Reading “It’s Simple Logic, Not Rocket Science” under the column ‘An Open Letter to Modi’ (Radiance Viewsweekly, 4-10 January), I felt pleasure to know the fact that the Modi government did nothing but promises. He came to power with the help of corporate houses and is working for them alone. He re-launched (not launched) many schemes which were introduced by the previous Congress government. Thanks a lot for unveiling these issues.

Justice Sachar on Saiyid Hamid

Justice Rajinder Sachar in his article, “My Friend Saiyid Hamid Saheb” in the book “Muslim Face of India” has mentioned that on one occasion when he reached the premises of Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah to address a gathering on his invitation, he saw Saiyid Saheb standing at the entrance, welcoming the guests with his trademark humility. Let me tell you, tomes can be written on Hamid Saheb’s humbleness. His ‘quiet no-frill’ demeanour belied the fact that this gentleman had been such a senior IAS officer and one of the most distinguished VCs of Aligarh Muslim University. He acted as a humdrum volunteer, rather than an icon of the Muslim community.

Why Confusion about Sikhs?

Why this confusion about Sikhs. They were never Hindus. The books I have read on religion, all treat Sikhs separately, not within the fold of Hinduism. Moreover Sikhs do not consider themselves Hindus. The problem created by law should be immediately addressed.
