Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, president AIMMM, on 26 February, wrote to the President of India demanding a fair probe into the alleged fake encounter of Shabbir Ahmad on 20 February in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. The deceased was a truck driver and was travelling along with his elder brother through Mathura when a policeman approached him and took him off his brother. Next day, the elder brother came to know about killing of a goon in an encounter in Mathura and went to the police station only to see his taken-off brother’s dead body stained in blood. Subsequently, the brother returned to his village in Haryana and narrated the story. Mumtaz Ali, Sarpanch of the deceased’s village, says that the police approached him on 23 February and threatened him of dire consequences if anyone tried talking to media and coming to the district. The policeman also admitted before him to have killed Shabbir in a fake encounter and would repeat his act if anyone tried passing through the district. The policeman also claimed that he has killed as many as 16 innocents in fake encounters.
