Eight people, including seven from Islami Chatra Shibir (Islamic student organisation) and one from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, have been killed in a week at Chittagong, Bogra and other places. In the history of Bangladesh it has never happened that seven students got killed in a week by police (and in some cases by Chatra League, the student front of the main government party).

It is strange that neither the government nor the government party have taken steps to investigate these cases and condemn the police action. In one case a police officer Prodip Kumar Dey himself was seen shooting a Shibir boy from close range. We have also seen the news that in Chittagong police fired bullets as rain drops. The secular press has failed to point out this gross abuse of police power.

We ask all to protest these student killings by the police .We ask the government to enquire and punish the offenders.
