The Uttar Pradesh police, on 29 August, arrested three persons who were demanding extortion money from a doctor in Noida while posing themselves as operatives of Indian Mujahideen.  One among the three arrested is a retired sub-inspector of Border Security Force while remaining two are constables of BSF and Delhi Police. They carried with them a forged letter on IM letterhead. The letter stated that an amount of Rs 30 Lakh was sought for the daily bread and butter and for the survival of the organisation. A 9 mm pistol has been seized from the extortionists. The police believe that the pistol is the same that went missing from the stockroom of the Delhi police days earlier. Those arrested have been identified as Pawan Kumar (45), Vikas Chaudhery (28) and Paramjeet Bhatia (30). “They warned the family was under constant surveillance and would risk being shot by the outfit’s sharp shooters if they showed any defiance. The family received first threat call on 23 August and was shocked to see their own number flashing on the screen,” said Preetinder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar region.
