Maulana Abdul Hafeez Shamim, Imam in a small town called Khandela, district Sikar, Rajasthan was arrested, following the October 11 terror strike in the holy shrine of Ajmer, and was brought to Jaipur. The detention of Imam has fuelled anger and the atmosphere of fear among the Muslim community in the district. The state police authorities have been reported to continue to harass the Imam physically and mentally, while his wife Momina was also detained and questioned for more than six hours; later she was released by Khandela district police station. The police also raided the residence of the Imam and recovered the religious books, fund slips of madarsa, passport and his personal diary, reports Urdu daily Hindustan Express.
According to the Additional Director General of Police, A.K Jain (crime), the Imam has not been arrested but he was simply detained for police interrogation. He said that he is being interrogated while the police did not find any clue during the probe which is related to the Ajmer blast.
According to the report, the police further said that Imam Shamim originally belonged to Muzaffar Nagar, district of U.P. and the police have been trying to know the background of the Imam.
