The Criminal Investigation Department, which is probing the communal riots of 6 January in Dhule, Maharashtra, raided the area at midnight on 1 April and arrested 4 Muslim youth. All the apprehended were produced in a court on the following day and sent on judicial remand till 6 April. The counsel of Muslim youth stated that the police arrested them in a bid to refrain them from appearing in the court against the police as they are eye witnesses of partiality of the police during the riots. The hearing of the case is to be started soon.
The role of police during the riot came under scanner when a video footage showed some police personnel looting and ransacking the shops. So far, 10 Muslims have been arrested in this connection and the action against errant police personnel is still to be taken. The riot has claimed at least six Muslim lives.
