Egyptian security forces raids against Muslim Brotherhood potential candidates running for the Municipal elections led to the detention of 831 candidates. The State Security Police raids focused on MB potential candidates through overnight raids in governorates of Monofiya, Sharqiya, Alexandria and Giza and Damietta. The first of these raids took place on February 14 in which dozens of Muslim Brotherhood members and leaders were arrested from their homes in governorates of Sharqiya, Al Fayyum, Monofiya and Al-Wadi Al-Jadid. More than 50 MB potential candidates, topped by Eng. Al Sayyed Hazin, a former member of parliament for the district of Abu Hammad, Dr. Al Sayed Abdul Hamid, a doctor and a former member of parliament for the district of Abu Kabeer, were taken into police custody. It is worth mentioning that most detainees submitted their candidacy papers to stand these coming municipal elections in nine governorates: Cairo , Alexandria , Al Beheira, Al-Qalyubia, al-Gharbiya, Kafr Al-Sheikh, Asyut , Dakahliya, and Bani Suwayf.
