The legal team for those accused in Egypt’s Itehadia Presidential Palace clashes lawsuit concluded its first meeting with President Mohamed Morsi in Burg Al-Arab prison (west of Cairo) on 12 November. The meeting lasted two hours and a half. It was attended by Mohamed Salim Al-Awa, head of the legal team; Mohamed Damati, media spokesman for the legal team; Mohamed Tosson and Osama Al-Hilou, members of the legal team; and Osama Morsi, the President’s son, in his capacity as a lawyer and a member of the legal team. The legal team’s spokesman confirmed that President Morsi stands steadfast and firm, and that his spirits are high.
In a statement to the Egyptian people from the prison on 12 November, President Mohamed Morsi said, “What happened is indeed a full-fledged military coup. In order to achieve stability in our homeland and reconciliation among its people, all honourable Egyptians must stand up firm, realising that this coup is a crime, an act of treason.”
