A First Information Report has been filed against the principal of Wilsona College in Mooradabad in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly refusing to give a Muslim bearded boy his admit card for the class 12 Board Examination. The FIR has been registered under Section 298 (uttering words etc with deliberate intent to hurt religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code. As per the FIR, Abdul Basit Khan went to the college on 24 February to collect his admit card for the exams due to kick off from next day. But the principal, AS Santram, told him to shave off his beard and refused to give admit card. Later, on the intervention of the student’s family members, the principal gave him the same. The principal stated that she did not mean to hurt the religious feeling. “I asked the boy to shave because he did not have beard in the photograph,” she stated.
