Hats off to ATS chief Hemant Karkare and other police officers, who laid down their lives fighting the terrorists. Eminent English journalist S Nihal Singh in his popular column “Talking Turkey” (Lokmat Times, December 12) writes, “The BJP’s attitude towards the investigation of alleged terror acts mounted by extreme Hindu elements was encompassed in the surprising comment by L K Advani that terror did not have a religious colour while castigating the head of Maharashtra ATS Hemant Karkare who gave his life in fighting the newest terrorists in Mumbai.” Similarly, a former director general of Maharashtra police D S Soman writes in Lokmat Times (December 12): “The BJP touched a new low in the allegations made against ATS chief Hemant Karkare. The terrorist class was divided into two classes – one of Muslims and the other of Hindus. Hindus could do no wrong as they are wedded to Hindutva. Politicians must leave the police to pursue investigations without fear or favour.” It seems to be a deep-rooted conspiracy of Hindutva extremist, who believe in violence and bloodshed. Highest level enquiry into Karkare’s death by a panel of Supreme Court judges is need of the hour. Police should be allowed to continue investigations without any fear of favour.
