The fact that no single evidence could be produced by the government to the anti-terror tribunal to justify the ban on SIMI, is highly shameful. The pet theory that is immediately dished out by the government and investigating agencies after any blast is that SIMI is behind it without any proof whatsoever to corroborate their ambitious speculation. This unfortunately gives a clear boost to the dangerous perception that all terrorists are Muslims. It’s high time that the government started investigating the actions of the right-wing saffron outfits. Two of the manifest pointers in this direction are noteworthy. First, the Nanded blast at a Bajrang Dal workers’ residence where bombs were being manufactured and secondly the attack on the RSS office at Chennai in which the culprits were the organisation’s workers themselves.
One thing that stands out undisputed is that these acts in the long term benefit the communal politics of parties. What communal violence was doing earlier, polarising the communities, is now being done by the acts of terror, as the propaganda that ‘people from one religious community do it’ has succeeded like nothing else. It’s high time we got over this mindset and our government and security agencies got over the preformed notions to be able to track the real culprits, as in Thane.
