The recent Supreme Court order to probe into the alleged role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues and senior police officers for aiding and abetting the infamous Goldberg Society massacre in 2002 Gujarat genocide has come as a major blow to the BJP camp ahead of the polls. Mr. Modi has downplayed this order by uttering his usual rhetoric that it is the ‘conspiracy’ of the Congress party against him. Tehelka weekly had carried out a sting operation in November 2007, in which it had unravelled the truth behind the Gujarat 2002 genocide, wherein a number of Sangh parivar members including Godhra BJP MLA Mr. Haresh Bhatt were caught on camera and exposed for their involvement. Bhatt was caught saying he was present in a meeting in which Mr. Modi allegedly gave him three days time to do whatever they wanted and also that he even patted the criminals and thanked them for their good job. With all these and other relevant evidences present against the perpetrators, the law has not yet taken its proper course and justice is yet to be delivered to the victims who have lost their dear ones in the worst carnage India has witnessed in the recent past. With the Supreme Court order for a fresh probe, one can only hope that justice will be done at the earliest.
