Prof. Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan delivered a detailed lecture on the role of reason in understanding Qur’anic wisdom at the Jamaat e Islami Hind headquarters. Scholars, students, and community members attended the session, which stressed reflective reading and intellectual responsibility.
Prof. Khan described the Qur’an as Qur’an-e-Hakeem, a book of wisdom repeatedly identified as such in several Surahs. He said public discourse often highlights honour and grace linked with the Qur’an, while wisdom receives limited attention. This gap, he said, demands serious reflection on how believers discover meaning through intellect.
He rejected claims portraying Islam as hostile to rational thought. He explained how the Qur’an addresses the human mind again and again, urging reflection and reasoning. He cited verses which condemn neglect of intellect and described reason as central to moral accountability and faith.
The lecture explored the meaning of hikmah through linguistic roots and classical scholarship. Prof. Khan explained wisdom as disciplined judgment, right action at the right time, and control over false desire. He described wisdom as knowledge refined through experience, ethics, and purpose.
Referring to Imam Shafi‘i, he said wisdom finds practical expression through the Sunnah. The Qur’an offers guidance. The Sunnah shows lived application in daily conduct. He outlined methods for exploring Qur’anic wisdom.
