A controversy has erupted at PES University after a video surfaced allegedly showing a professor making derogatory and communal remarks against a Muslim student during a classroom session. The clip, recorded during a class on March 27, appears to show Dr. Muralidhar Deshpande repeatedly calling a student a “terrorist.”
Social media users claimed the remark was made multiple times, though the full context remains unclear. The video triggered strong reactions, prompting the university to act. The administration placed the professor under suspension, pending an internal inquiry. It confirmed that a student complaint had been received and immediate action was taken.
Reports identify the student as Affan. The professor allegedly made several offensive and politically charged remarks in front of nearly 60 students. These included statements blaming “people like you” for conflicts involving Iran and remarks referencing US President Donald Trump. The professor also allegedly used abusive language during the exchange.
Students present described the classroom atmosphere as humiliating and distressing. The incident has raised concerns about discrimination and the safety of minority students in academic spaces.
There are claims that CCTV footage from the classroom may have been deleted. If confirmed, this would raise concerns about transparency in handling the case. The internal inquiry is expected to examine the video.
