This refers to the “Where Only Singers are Patriots” (Radiance Viewsweekly, 19-25 May). The move of the MP ShafiqurRehmanBarq is really praiseworthy and it should have been reciprocated by other MPs as well who claim to be Muslims.But it is “gospel truth” that Indians especially Muslims do nothing but “assume.” Though VandeMataram is not the national anthem of the country yet it has been assumed to be the same and that is why it was sung in the parliament instead of Jana GanaMana, the real national one. VandeMatram is a national song and so is Iqbal’s “SareJahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara.” While the former is contradictory to the faith and belief of 14 million citizens, no patriot has made any claim against the latter. So why not promote the one which gets total acceptance from all sects of the society without any hue and cry.
