A book can sometimes open a conversation that a formal meeting can’t. Ahead of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Karnataka’s statewide Seerah Campaign, State Secretary Akbar Ali Udupi and Assistant Secretary Riyaz Ahmed Ron called on former Karnataka minister B.T. Lalitha Nayak at her residence on Aug. 6. They enquired about her well-being, introduced the forthcoming campaign and presented her with books on the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
During the interaction, Lalitha Nayak said, “The work Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did for the rights and upliftment of women was truly historic. He was a liberator of women. We should remain forever indebted to him for this,” she said.
Her words gave the meeting a significance beyond the customary exchange of greetings and books. They opened a larger question: what can the life of a man who lived more than fourteen centuries ago say to a society that continues to debate women’s dignity, rights and place in public life?
Lalitha Nayak also wished success to the forthcoming Seerah Campaign, “Beacon of Revolution – Prophet Muhammad ﷺ,” which will be held across Karnataka from August 26 to September 6.
The visit is expected to set the tone for similar interactions across the state. Local teams will reach out to writers, academics, religious leaders, social activists and other public figures, presenting Seerah literature and opening conversations around the Prophet’s life and its relevance to issues that concern society today.
