Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan, demanded legal proceedings against all the persons named in the Liberhan Commission findings that dealt with the Babri Masjid demolition and attempts to create communal tension in the nation at a press conference in Patna on November 28. “The report names 68 persons, including 11 senior government officials. Cases must be lodged against all those indicted in the Commission report to maintain the sanctity of the law. People’s faith in the nation’s legal system would be diminished if appropriate actions were not taken against those indicted by the Liberhan Commission,” Khan said. “Some politicians are already trying to find holes in the report in order to weaken its findings. I am afraid, the report, if not followed up, would meet the same fate as the Justice Srikrishna Commission Report that investigated the Mumbai riots following the demolition of the Babri Masjid,” the RJD leader said. Khan also demanded disqualification of the culprits from contesting elections at state and national level and permanent ban on the political parties whose leaders were found guilty of instigating the demolition of the mosque.
