The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on December 20 demanded that former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee along with others indicted by Justice Liberhan Commission should be prosecuted for their role in the conspiracy to demolish the Babri Mosque on December 6, 1992. AIMPLB assistant general secretary Abdul Rahim Quraishi told reporters after the executive committee meeting that merely because the commission had not summoned Vajpayee should not come in the way of the prosecution as it was merely a technical fault. He also demanded that the cases being conducted at Lucknow and Rae Bareli be expedited and the Government must give an undertaking that any court verdict would be honoured. Quraishi said that the Congress party and the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao were equally responsible for the demolition of the Mosque and the commission had erred in giving a clean chit to the party leader.
