The article “Struggling to Surrender” by Syed Kazim (Radiance, 27 April-3 May) presents the pulse of the modern Muslim society. The writer, a keen observer of the social milieu, has pinpointed several shortcomings that have crept into the society. I think the sad plight of Muslim society he has portrayed is the result of lopsided growth of science and technology and people’s unconscious leaning towards materialism. This has left the call of conscience to suffer.
The solution lies in turning to the basics. Parents and teachers can play a very positive role in the reformation if not reconstruction of society. They can keep a close watch on the activities, taste, likes and dislikes as well as friend circles of children and shape them in the desired way.
